A central collection station/service is available for garbage and recycling at the corner of Red Hawk Pass and Columbia Valley Road. There is no curb-side pick-up available at your cottage. Residents take their garbage and recycling to the large collection bins. These bins are emptied on a regular scheduled basis.
Please do not leave large items here. Do not leave items next to the bins for others to repurpose, and avoid scavenging. These bins are for regular household waste only. Items that may still have use should be donated to charity, or if large or toxic, disposed of via a public waste site or recycling facility, and not left in the garbage and recycling areas for pick up.
Signs listing accepted recycling items are posted on the outside of the recycling bins. A summary includes:
* Hard Plastic: codes 1, 2, and 5
* Film Plastic: code 4
* Flattened cardboard (max size 2’x2’)
* Metal and clean foil
* Aerosol and sprays
* Dairy and Tetra packs
* Paper, cups, molded paper, and more
Seasonally, the Site Manager arranges for a large temporary bin for owners to deposit larger waste items like old mattresses, broken furniture, or camping supplies. This bin usually fills quickly, and once full, there is no further availability. Residents are asked to take their large refuse to a suitable municipal waste or recycling facility. Check the City of Chilliwack’s website for locations, fees, accepted items, and hours of operation.
Further along Red Hawk Pass, beside the Boat Storage and Tennis Courts, is the collection bin for all yard waste.
* Tree branches and twigs: Please cut into less than four (4) foot lengths before placing in the yard waste collection bin.
* Grass clippings and leaves: Empty directly into the yard waste bin or fill appropriate yard waste bags that can be placed into the yard waste bin (i.e., not left outside of the bin).
Seasonally, the yard waste bin can fill quickly. The Site Manager will arrange larger bins for those times. If the bin is full when you go to dump your yard waste, please take it back to your strata lot, storing it at your own cottage until the next week’s pickup. It would also be helpful to email the Property Manager to advise that the yard waste bin is full.
